On July 23, 1921, the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in the French concession in Shanghai. Thirteen delegates across the country attended the meeting.
On July 30, the congress was forced to suspend when a concession police search threatened to disrupt proceedings. Delegates went aboard a boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, for the last day’s meeting. The congress decided that the party would be called The Communist Party of China and decided on the objectives of the Party. It also adopted the Resolution on the Present Tasks.
Now a replica of the boat on Nanhu Lake has become a tourist attraction. Xinhua-21st
