美国新冠单日新增确诊病例数两创纪录后，美国白宫幕僚长马克·梅多斯（Mark Meadows）公然宣称，“我们不打算控制疫情”。

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said on Sunday that the US is "not going to control" the coronavirus pandemic, as cases surge across the country and nearly 225,000 Americans have died from the virus.

据CNN报道，当地时间10月25日，马克·梅多斯接受CNN“国情咨文”（State of the Union）节目采访，与主持人杰克·塔珀（Jack Tapper）谈及疫情时， 梅多斯表示：”我们不打算控制新冠疫情，我们会去控制能否获得疫苗、治疗疗法和其他缓解措施。”
"We are not going to control the pandemic. We are going to control the fact that we get vaccines, therapeutics and other mitigation areas.”



这一回答让主持人一脸疑惑，不禁追问原因，然而梅多斯又抛出“神逻辑”……



主持人：”为什么不去控制疫情？”
“Why aren't we gonna control the pandemic?”

梅多斯：“因为它像流感一样是传染性病毒。”
“Because it is a contagious virus just like the flu. ”

主持人：”对啊，那为什么不采取措施遏制病毒传播呢？”
“Yeah, but why not make efforts to contain it?”

梅多斯：“我们有在采取措施遏制病毒传播啊……”
“We’re making efforts to contain it…”

主持人：“比如说，不戴口罩在全美国乱跑？”
“By running around the country not wearing a mask?”



梅多斯：“我这么说吧。我们需要做的是保证我们有适当的缓解措施，无论是治疗药物、疫苗还是疗法，以确保人们不会死于新冠。”
“Let me just say this. What we need to do is make sure that we have the proper mitigation factors, whether it's therapies or vaccines or treatments to make sure that people don't die from this.”

采访中主持人还追问，为何在特朗普的大型竞选集会上，没有要求参会者戴口罩。梅多斯开始狡辩，还攻击起了主持人……

梅多斯：“你去过（特朗普）竞选集会吗?你跟着我们去一趟就知道了，我们发口罩了。”
“Have you been to a rally? You come with us to a rally and it will show you. We give out masks…”

主持人：但他们不戴啊。”
“They don't wear them.”

梅多斯：“这是一个自由的社会。你现在也没戴呀！”
“It's a free society. You're not wearing one right now.”

听到这里，主持人已经忍无可忍……



主持人：“这个演播室就我一个人，没别人。”
“There's literally nobody in this room. There's literally not one person in this studio.”

梅多斯：“你一直在说你到哪儿都戴口罩，美国人可不信，我也不信！”
“So you're saying you always wear a mask wherever you go. The American people know that's not true. I know it's not true.”

主持人：我除了在演播室、办公室和家里不戴，其他地方我都戴啊！我在CNN走廊里都戴！
“I wear a mask except when I'm in here, in my office and home… I wear a mask when I walk in the hallway at CNN.”



无言以对的梅多斯有点语无伦次，只好开始转移话题……

据CNN报道，梅多斯发表此番言论之际，美国疫情迎来新高峰。据美国约翰斯•霍普金斯大学统计数据显示，24日美国24小时新增确诊病例超过9万4千例，刷新了23日刚刚创下的美国疫情暴发以来单日新增病例数的最高纪录。

然而，与此同时，美国政府继续无视政府卫生专家有关“戴口罩、保持社交距离和避免大型聚会等方式遏制病毒传播”的建议。

The comments from US President Donald Trump's chief of staff come as coronavirus cases surge across the US and the administration continues to consistently disregard advice from government health experts to wear masks, social distance and avoid large gatherings as a way to curb the spread of the virus. 

最近几天，美国副总统彭斯的核心圈子中至少有5人被检测出新冠阳性，而据知情人士透露，白宫或面临疫情的“第二轮”侵袭。

The White House is also facing a potential second outbreak of the virus after at least five people in Pence's inner circle have tested positive in recent days, according to a source familiar with the situation.
