外交部发言人赵立坚17日在例行记者会上表示，中国的目标从来不是超越或者取代美国，不是为了跟美国搞你输我赢的竞争，而是不断超越自我，成为更好的中国，让中国人民过上更好的生活。

有记者提问，美国总统拜登在11月16日中美元首会晤的当天，正式签署了此前通过的1.2万亿美元的基建法案。白宫发言人普萨基表示，中美元首会晤是美方同中方建立竞争条款的良好机会，请问中方对此有何评论?

赵立坚表示，美国如何发展自己是美国内政。我曾经在中国驻美国使馆工作多年，对美国的情况有一些了解，我们乐见美国取得更大的发展进步。

I would like to stress that how the US intends to invest in itself is its domestic affair. I worked in the Chinese Embassy in the US for many years and have some idea about the conditions in the country. For our part, we would be glad to see the US making greater progress at home.

It is never China's goal to surpass or replace the US or engage in zero-sum competition with it. Our goal is to constantly surpass ourselves, become a better version of ourselves and enable the Chinese people to lead better lives. 

赵立坚指出，作为世界前两大经济体，中美利益高度交融，中美合则两利，斗则俱伤。无论是从中美两国人民还是世界各国人民的共同利益出发，合作才是中美唯一的正确选择。

As the two largest economies in the world, China and the US have deeply-intertwined interests. Both stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. For the sake of the Chinese and American people and for the sake of people of the whole world, cooperation is the only right choice for our two countries.

美方应该端正心态，理性看待中国和中国的发展，为中美关系健康稳定发展发挥建设性作用。

The US should adjust its mentality, look at China and its development in a rational light, and play a constructive role in the sound and steady development of bilateral relations.
