China's 16-year-old Guan Chenchen
clinched the gold medal in women's balance beam
at the Tokyo Summer Olympics on August 3.
During the final, her movement of
shaking her hands alternately and
leaning her body backward,
had captivated the crowd and
attracted the foreign coaches to follow suit.
The teenage gold medalist released a video
on her social media account Tuesday,
posing a question to "Wuqiong Xiaoliang",
a popular science blogger in China.
"Many people say that one of my routines
on the balance beam looks like
'a kangaroo shaking its hands'.
Can a kangaroo really
lower itself backwards like that?"
According to "Wuqiong Xiaoliang",
the kangaroo in the video is not shaking its hands,
but combing its hair.
By doing so, the animal can stretch its back
to make itself more comfortable.
As for why a kangaroo can
"lower its waist" backward,
the blogger said it’s because
the kangaroo has a tail to support it.
Notes:
英文里itch指“痒,发痒”,既可做名词又可做动词,如:My back is itching.
I feel itchy all over.
She scratched at the insect bites on her arm.
I've got a tickle in my throat.(我的喉咙发痒。)
