现在，一种可怕的病毒侵入了一座美丽的城市，让很多爷爷奶奶、叔叔阿姨和小朋友生病了。

Recently a horrible virus invaded a city that many people love dearly, and countless grandparents, aunts, uncles and children became sick.

妈妈，什么是病毒？

Mommy, what is a virus?

病毒就是藏在我们身边的怪兽，它们比米粒还小很多很多，我们的肉眼根本看不到它们。

A virus is like a monster that rides all over the place. It’s much tinier than a grain of rice, and you can’t see it with your naked eyes.

“那么小！”

“So tiny!”

“是啊，

“Exactly.”

这些怪兽很狡猾，它们就漂浮在空气里，也会藏在门把手、电梯按钮上，它们有可能会粘在我们的手上，它们总是偷偷地钻进你的嘴巴、鼻子和眼睛里，让你发烧、咳嗽、流鼻涕……

These virus monsters are very crafty. They could be floating in the air, hiding beneath door knobs and elevator buttons, and sticking onto our hands. They could sneak into your mouth, nose and eyes, giving you a fever and making you cough and your nose run…

“它们可真狡猾。”

“They are really cunning.”

不过，我们的身体里驻扎着一支部队，它的名字叫“免疫系统“。只要有怪兽入侵，这支部队里的士兵就会行动起来保护我们的身体，把怪兽消灭。

Yes, they are. But in our body, there is a kind of army named the immune system. If virus monsters invade our body, soldiers in this army protect us and kill off these monsters.

“哇，太好了。”

“Wow! That’s awesome.”

可是，现在怪兽家族有了新成员。这些新成员属于冠状病毒，身上长着很多突起，看起来就像国王头上戴的王冠。人们以前没有见过这种冠状病毒，所以称呼它们为“新型冠状病毒”。

What is terrible is that there are new members in the virus monsters’ family. These new members are families of the “coronavirus” as they also have little things sticking out on their body and they look like the crowns that kings and queens wear. We’ve never seen this kind of coronavirus before, so we call them the novel coronavirus.

“那它们厉害吗？”

“Then…are they hard to deal with?”

这些新出现的怪兽可厉害了！负责保护我们身体的士兵不知道该怎么对付它们，只能眼睁睁地看着它们在我们的身体里搞破坏。

These new virus monsters are really sly! The soldiers that protect our body do not know how to defeat them, and can only let these virus monsters mess up with our body.

“Oh! That’s terrifying!”

这些怪兽一路冲进我们的肺里，把整个肺都变成它们的地盘。这样，我们就会发烧、咳嗽、呼吸困难。

These virus monsters go straight into our lungs, and make our lungs their home. And this is why the virus monsters make us cough, have a fever, and make it hard for you to breathe.

What does it feel like when it’s hard to breathe?

就像掉进水里无法呼吸时的感觉。

It feels like you’re under water and can’t breathe.

“I know, that does feel awful.”

The virus monsters can also sneak out all over our cities and countryside.

为了保护其他城市的人，那座城市的爷爷奶奶、叔叔阿姨把城门关上了。这样，那些怪兽就溜不出来了；不过，城里的爷爷奶奶、叔叔阿姨和小朋友也出不来了。

To protect people in other places the gates of the city were shut so the virus monsters could not sneak off and make people in other places sick. But this means people in the city cannot leave it either.

住在那座城市的爷爷奶奶、叔叔阿姨和小朋友害怕吗？

Are the grandparents, uncles, aunts, and children in this city scared?

害怕啊，每一个人都害怕。

Yes, they’re all scared.

可是，为了保护我们，他们还是这么做了。他们是不是很棒？

But to protect us, they still chose to close the door of the city. Aren’t they brave?

嗯，很棒！妈妈，我想帮助他们！

Yeah! They are brave! Mommy, I want to help them!

已经有很多很多人在帮助他们了。

Many people are helping them already.

Many people are working very hard to defeat the virus monsters.

“都有谁呢？”

“And who are they?”

科学家们抓紧研制新药，建筑工人们加快建设收治病人的新医院……

They’re the scientists who are working on new medicines to cure the ill and the construction workers who are building new hospitals for patients as fast as possible…

快递员叔叔冒着被怪兽抓住的危险，把口罩送到每一个需要的人手中。

They are the delivery people who are delivering masks to everyone in need, risking being caught by the virus monsters, too.

为了大家能买到吃的和用的东西，超市的营业员还在戴着口罩坚持上班。

To ensure we can buy food and daily necessities, shop assistants in supermarkets are still doing their jobs, but with masks on.

保洁人员每天在城市的各个角落喷洒消毒水，努力消灭怪兽。

Every day, cleaners are spraying disinfectant over every inch of the city, trying to kill the virus monsters.

他们都是普通人，但这一刻他们都是最厉害的战士，都是最勇敢的人！“

They are all ordinary people, but now they are also powerful soldiers; they are the bravest fighters!

“They are so brave.”

是啊。在这场战争中，冲在最前面的是医生和护士们。他们要帮助生病的人和怪兽作战。

Yes, they are. In this war against virus monsters, doctors and nurses are at the very front line. They are helping the patients fight their battle with the virus monsters.

怪兽们破坏力很强，所以医生们和护士们要穿上防护服，戴上口罩和护目镜。

Virus monsters are very dangerous, so doctors and nurses have to wear protection suits, masks and medical goggles.

有一位医生阿姨为了方便穿防护服，剪掉了心爱的长发。

There is a doctor who cut her beautiful long hair so that she can put on her protection suit more conveniently.

有一位护士阿姨戴着口罩工作了一整天，她的脸被口罩压出了深深的印痕。

There is a nurse who worked for a whole day with her mask on, which left marks on her face.

有一位医生叔叔很累很累，趴在凳子上就睡着了。

The doctors and nurses write encouraging words on their protection suits to cheer themselves up. They believe that even if they are defeated by this crown-like virus, their colleagues will come and save them.

“Yes, I believe so.”

妈妈也害怕啊。妈妈害怕自己会被怪兽抓住，不能回来陪你过生日。宝贝啊，马上就是你的生日了。
