新冠肺炎疫情对全球旅游业造成重大冲击的同时，好莱坞及娱乐产业也受到严重影响。一系列影视作品停摆，多部今年上映的大片撤档。3月12日，迪士尼宣布原定于3月27日上映的真人电影《花木兰》推迟。其他推迟上映的影片还包括《007：无暇赴死》和《比得兔2：逃跑计划》等。据中国日报网报道，内部人士预计行业停摆以及撤档对未来数年都将产生经济和文化上的影响。

17日，中国工程院院士王军志在国务院联防联控机制就药物疫苗和检测试剂研发攻关最新情况的发布会上说，目前我国正按照5种技术路线开展新冠疫苗紧急研制，包括灭活疫苗、基因工程重组亚单位疫苗、腺病毒载体疫苗、核酸疫苗以及减毒流感病毒载体疫苗。王军志表示，大部分研发团队4月份都能完成临床前研究，有的团队进展更快。有些研发团队已向国家药监局递交临床试验申请材料，并且已经开展招募志愿者等相关工作。我国新冠疫苗研发进展目前总体上处于国际先进行列。

Chinese scientists have been racing to develop COVID-19 vaccines by five approaches, namely inactivated vaccines, genetic engineering subunit vaccines, adenovirus vector vaccines, nucleic acid vaccines, and vaccines using attenuated influenza virus as vectors, said Wang Junzhi, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Some research team has been enrolling volunteers and applied for clinical trials with the National Medical Products Administration, he added. In general, China's vaccine development against COVID-19 is among the world's front-runners.

3月16日，北京小汤山医院重新启用，将主要用于境外来（返）京人员中需筛查人员、疑似病例及轻型、普通型确诊患者的筛查和治疗。小汤山医院设床位1000余张，主要用于北京海关检疫后有风险人员的进一步医学筛查。小汤山医院扩建区域的病房设施等所有设施均已验收合格。同时，小汤山医院还从市属医院中选派了数百名医护人员，专业涵盖感染、急诊、重症、放射、中医等，已完成系统的业务及防护培训。

Beijing's Xiaotangshan Hospital began new operations on Monday to screen and treat people entering China from overseas with COVID-19. The hospital will treat those with mild and moderate symptoms of coronavirus infection. The hospital, which has more than 1,000 beds, will observe and treat travelers at high risk of infection, following up on airport screenings. All facilities and equipment used at the hospital passed inspection before being put into operation, and the capital has assigned several hundred medical personnel from various disciplines — infectious diseases, emergency, intensive care, radiation and traditional Chinese medicine — to the hospital.
