近期，美国新冠疫情迅速恶化，日增确诊病例数反弹，8月初已回到半年前状态。而美国疾控中心公布的一系列数据更令人担忧。

据美国有线电视新闻网（CNN）10日报道，美国疾控中心8月9日最新数据显示，98.2%的美国人口，也就是大约3.25亿美国人居住在新冠病毒传播率为“高”水平或“大量”水平的县；其中，有四分之三的美国人口，也就是2.5亿美国人居住在新冠病毒传播率为“高”水平的地区。仅有0.2%的美国人口，也就是60万美国人居住在新冠病毒传播率为“低”水平的地区。传播率为“中”水平地区的人口大约为1.6%。

A total of 98.2% of the US population — around 325 million people — live in counties considered to have “high” or “substantial” Covid-19 transmission, according to CNN’s analysis of data published Monday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Three quarters of the population, or 250 million people, live in “high” transmission areas alone. Only 0.2% of the population — fewer than 600,000 people — live in areas with “low” transmission. Another 1.6% are in areas with “moderate” transmission.

报道称，这意味着，美国疾控中心的最新指导方针适用于绝大多数美国人口。该指导方针建议，在新冠病毒传播率为“高”水平或“大量”水平的地区，即使已经接种了新冠疫苗的人，也要在室内戴上口罩。

That means the latest CDC guidance, which advises even fully vaccinated people to mask up indoors in areas with substantial or high transmission, would apply to all but six million Americans.

按照美国疾控中心的判断标准，如果一个县在过去的一周，每10万居民中报告100例甚至更多的新增确诊病例，或是新冠检测阳性率为10%甚至更高，则被认定为新冠病毒传播率为“高”水平的县。而新冠病毒传播率为“低”水平的县，则是每10万居民中报告10例新增确诊病例或者新冠检测阳性率低于5%。

The CDC considers a county to have “high” transmission if there have been 100 or more cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 residents in the past week, or a test positivity rate of 10% or higher during the same time frame. For “low” transmission, those numbers must be fewer than 10 new cases per 100,000 or a test positivity rate under 5%.

鉴于美国疫情当前情况，一些地方针对口罩佩戴等方面的防疫要求作出了新调整：

不过，也有地方表态，戴口罩并非强制：

此外，针对疫苗接种，也出现了态度分化。

国会山网站此前报道，在新冠病例不断快速增加的密苏里地区，出现了“秘密”打疫苗的现象，原因就是接种者怕遭到他人“抵制”。

有人希望瞒着亲友，偷偷接种疫苗，并设法隐瞒身份。一位医生在接受CNN采访时说，这些接种疫苗的人，不希望承受来自同事或其他人施加的压力，不想被别人认为“服软”了。而密苏里恰恰是全美德尔塔毒株感染最多、最快的州之一。

尽管专家一再呼吁接种疫苗，仍有许多人因不相信美国政府、不相信科学等原因，拒不接种。这也促使人群针对疫苗的态度愈发两极分化（polarization）：
 


美专家则发出警告，如果美国不能控制病毒在社区的传播，迟早会出现能逃避疫苗保护、更难以应对的新毒株。

据新华社报道，美国国家卫生研究院院长弗朗西斯•柯林斯8日在接受美国广播公司“本周”栏目采访时表示，美国在遏制感染德尔塔毒株的新冠病例激增问题上“失败”，并且“现在正在付出可怕的代价”。

柯林斯说，如果在疫苗广泛可用时有更多人接种了疫苗，那么目前由德尔塔毒株引发的病例激增问题可能会得到缓解，现在的情况本不应出现，他承认这是“失败”。
 


Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Francis Collins, the director of the National Institute of Health (NIH) told host George Stephanopoulos that the U.S. is currently "failing" in terms of building community-wide immunity. 

"I'm afraid we should not really have ever gotten in the place we are," Collins said. "In that regard, yes, we are failing. ... Now we're paying the terrible price." If more people had gotten vaccinated when vaccines became widely available, the current surge fueled by the delta variant could have been mitigated, Collins said earlier in the interview.

在节目中，主播还引用了《今日美国》的一张美国疫情形势图，上面写着：

柯林斯还说，政治因素使美国公众对缓解流行病战略的意见分化，强制接种疫苗或者戴口罩变成了表明政治立场的行为。“我们在政治上的两极分化令人难以置信，我们真的不需要在对待一种正在杀人的病毒问题上两极分化，”他说，“我们应该尽一切努力挽救生命。”

Collins said Sunday he believes vaccine requirements could make a difference in slowing the rapid spread of COVID-19 and acknowledged how politics has polarized public opinion on pandemic mitigation strategies.“We're incredibly polarized about politics, we don't really need to be polarized about a virus that's killing people," Collins continued. "We ought to be doing everything we can to save lives."

Nationwide, COVID-19 cases have averaged 100,000 for three days in a row, up 35% over the past week, according to a Reuters tally of public health data. Hospitalizations rose 40% and deaths, a lagging indicator, registered an 18% rise nationwide in the past week. Hospitalizations in Florida have been at record highs for eight days in a row, according to the Reuters analysis.
