包括腾讯视频和爱奇艺在内的国内视频平台，因超前点播服务备受批评。该服务允许用户付费后早于发布时期收看内容。不过，用户不能自由选择自己想购买的集数，因为除了特定想看的某一集，用户必须先购买这集之前的所有点播剧集。上海市消保委指出，这一行为侵犯消费者权益。作为回应，腾讯和爱奇艺都做出调整，用户可选择单独剧集购买。

Chinese video streaming platforms, including Tencent and iQiyi, have drawn criticism for their advanced on-demand service. The service allows viewers to pay to watch episodes ahead of the releasing schedule. But users don’t have full control, as they may be forced to purchase not only the episode they want, but all on-demand episodes that come before the specific episode they want to watch. The Shanghai Consumer Council pointed out that such practices violate  consumers’ rights. In response, Tencent and iQiyi have made adjustments, providing customers with the option to select individual episodes.

*On-demand表示“按需的”，on-demand programming (点播节目)，on-demand service (按需服务)。On demand也可作介词短语使用，例如The pharmaceutical factory is manufacturing drugs on demand. (制药厂按需生产药品。)
