French Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports, Jean-Michel Blanquer confirmed on Thursday that France will not join the diplomatic boycott of the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympic Games. "As for a diplomatic boycott...France will not do it," Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said on BFM TV.

The French government will send its Minister Delegate in charge of Sports: Roxana Maracineanu for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and Secretary of State in charge of People with Disabilities, Sophie Cluzel for the Paralympic Games.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday he would rather work with the International Olympic Committee on the protection of athletes around the world than engage in symbolic boycotts. "We must not politicise (the Olympics)," Macron told a press conference.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has accepted an invitation to attend the Beijing Winter Olympics in February 2022, said his spokesman on Thursday. "The secretary-general received an invitation from the International Olympic Committee to attend the Beijing Winter Games and he has accepted it," said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman.

We are seeing more and more governments and national Olympic committees expressing in public their support for the 2022 Beijing Games. IOC President Thomas Bach underlined the mission of the Games to unite the world. It could be the end of the Olympic Movement if politics got involved. It is against the mission of the IOC if Olympics is used to intensify conflicts and differences.
