据美国媒体报道，美国执法人员27日在得克萨斯州圣安东尼奥市一辆大货车车厢里发现的移民死亡人数升至53人。这是美国近年来最严重的移民死亡事件之一。



The death toll of migrants who died after they were abandoned in the back of a tractor-trailer that was discovered Monday in San Antonio rose to 53 on Wednesday. It's the deadliest incident of human smuggling in U.S. history.

这辆18轮大货车27日晚被发现时车厢里挤有近100人。事发当天，圣安东尼奥最高气温达38摄氏度。执法部门通报，大货车车厢内没有水和空调。一些人摸起来很“烫”。至少16人因中暑和脱水被送往当地医院，其中包括4名未成年人。

多国确认，死者中有至少27名墨西哥公民、3名危地马拉公民和4名洪都拉斯公民。其余死者的身份暂时不清楚。

At least 27 were from Mexico, three from Guatemala and four from Honduras, local media reported, citing officials from these countries.

据CNN报道，目前已有4人因与事件相关被逮捕起诉。

Four people have been arrested and charged.



美国总统拜登于28日表示，这起惨剧“可怕且令人心碎”，并且呼吁加大对人口走私环节犯罪的打击力度。

U.S. President Joe Biden described the discovery as "horrifying and heartbreaking," saying the deaths underscored the need to go after criminal trafficking rings.

联合国秘书长古特雷斯办公室28日表示，美国和墨西哥当局必须对美国得克萨斯州发生的移民死亡事件展开调查，并将所有涉及这一事件的责任人绳之以法。

这一事件再次表明，需要制定综合战略，以保证区域内移民活动安全、有序和有规则进行。

"Authorities in both the U.S. and Mexico must investigate and bring to justice all those who had a role in the chain of events that resulted in this tragedy," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' press office said Tuesday in a note to correspondents.

"This horror once again highlights the need for comprehensive strategies for safe, orderly and regular migration in the region," said the note.

联合国秘书长发言人迪雅里克在当日的例行记者会上同时呼吁，有关各方遵照有关移民和难民问题的全球契约加强合作，采取切实行动，防止这类不必要的死亡事件发生。

In response to questions on the news at a daily press briefing Tuesday, Stephane Dujarric, the UN secretary-general's spokesman, stressed the need for all parties to work cooperatively to take concrete action to help prevent such needless deaths among people on the move.

The tragedy is heartrending. What is even more regrettable is that such tragic deaths of migrants did not happen by accident in the US.

有数据显示，2021财年，美国执法部门在美国和墨西哥边境逮捕非法移民约170万人次，创20年来最高纪录，其中包含14.5万名儿童。美国将移民关押在条件恶劣的移民拘留中心，移民常常遭受虐待、暴力和不人道待遇。2021财年，美国对移民的暴力执法夺走了557人生命，比上一财年增长一倍多。在疫情背景之下，美国还不顾国际社会反对，将成千上万感染新冠病毒的非法移民加紧遣返回国，直接造成许多拉美国家疫情加剧。

According to statistics, US law enforcement authorities arrested about 1.7 million migrants at the US southern border for fiscal year 2021, a record high for 20 years. That included roughly 145,000 minors. The US locks up migrants in detention centers with dreadful living conditions, where migrants are often subject to abuse, violence and other types of inhumane treatment. The US’s brutal law enforcement led to 557 migrant deaths during fiscal year 2021, more than doubling the figure for fiscal year 2020. Amid COVID-19, the US speeded up the repatriation of tens of thousands of COVID-infected illegal migrants despite international opposition. This directly worsened the pandemic situation in many Latin American countries.

美方应认真审视并纠正自身在难移民问题上的斑斑劣迹，采取切实措施保障难移民的人权和各项基本权利，不要再让类似的悲剧一再重演。

The US needs to seriously reflect on and address its poor track record on migrant issues, take concrete actions to protect human rights and other basic rights of migrants, and prevent such tragedies from happening again.”
