当地时间15日，瑞士男子网球名将费德勒在个人社交媒体上宣布，将于本周在伦敦举行的拉沃尔杯后退役。

Swiss tennis icon Roger Federer announced that he will retire from Grand Slams and the ATP Tour after the Laver Cup.

据新华网报道，现年41岁的费德勒近年来饱受伤病困扰，过去两年接受了三次膝部手术，自去年7月的温网后因为膝伤再未参加其他比赛。

费德勒在社交媒体上发布的告别信中写道：“我努力恢复到最佳竞技状态，但我同样知道自己的身体能力和极限，它给我传达的信号清晰地提醒我，我已经41岁了。”

"I've worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body's capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old," said the legend, who has not played since Wimbledon last year.

外媒的“退役”有几种写法？

费德勒宣布退役的消息刷屏网络，除了常见的retire，外媒还用上了这些花样表达。

路透社使用了call time on的搭配：费德勒将于下周的拉沃尔杯后结束辉煌的职业生涯

根据柯林斯辞典的解释，call time on意为“终止某事（If you call time on something, you end it.）”，并且标注主要为英国使用、新闻界使用。

其他外媒中，“call”的出镜也格外频繁，福布斯新闻在报道橄榄球传奇汤姆·布拉迪对费德勒退役表态时用了“call it quits”；

《每日邮报》、和《爱尔兰时报》则用了“call it a day”。

此外，在英文中，根据不同的语意，“退役”也有不同的表达方法。运动员和军人退役、人员退休都可以用retire，描述足球运动员的则有hang up one’s boots，意为“挂靴”。Scrappage指车辆等达到使用年限而报废，也可说out of service；船舰“退役”一般说be decommissioned。
