Two powerful earthquakes hit Türkiye early Monday, said the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). A magnitude 7.4 quake struck the Pazarcik district of southern Kahramanmaras province at 04:17 (0117GMT), followed by another magnitude 6.4 quake which hit southern Gaziantep province at 04:26 (0126GMT), said the AFAD.
At least 2,379 people were killed and 14,483 others were injured in 10 provinces of Türkiye due to two strong earthquakes that jolted the southern part of the country Monday, said Vice President Fuat Oktay.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that AFAD and other units are “on alert.” He noted that rescue teams were immediately dispatched to areas affected by the earthquake. Türkiye will observe seven days of national mourning after deadly earthquakes hit several southern provinces.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu noted that the country issued a level-4 alarm. "We've set up a fourth-level alert. This is an alarm that includes international assistance," Soylu said.

In Türkiye, people trying to leave the quake-stricken regions caused traffic jams, hampering efforts of emergency teams trying to reach the affected areas.
