U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday confused Canada with China, he mistakenly praised China while delivering a speech to the Canadian parliament, evoking laughter from the audience.
In the United States, we’re expanding legal pathways for migration to seek safety in humanitarian — on a humanitarian basis, while discouraging unlawful migration that feeds exploitation and human trafficking.
So, today I applaud China [sic] for stepping up — or, excuse me — I applaud Canada — (laughter) — I’m — you can tell what I’m thinking — (laughter) —About China, I won’t get into that yet.
At a press conference later in the day, Biden nearly made a similar gaffe by saying Japan when he was discussing China’s relationship with Russia, but caught himself mid-word at “Japa…”
"'I want to applaud China.....I mean Canada.' The room erupted in laughter," Trump wrote on Friday. "This was Biden's big punchline today speaking before the Canadian Parliment [sic] in Ottawa, Ontario. Just a disaster - We are a Nation in Decline!"
