Queen Elizabeth said Tuesday that the royal family will address allegations of racism within Buckingham Palace made by Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex in their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The queen’s comments were her first since that interview, when Harry and Meghan Markle also detailed a lack of support by the royal family for the duchess’s mental health issues and media intrusion.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” Queen Elizabeth said in a statement issued at 5:30 p.m. London time, after hours of speculation about how she would respond to the claims.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately,” she added.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Prince Charles appeared in public earlier on Tuesday for the first time since the seismic interview and did not respond to a question on the furor surrounding his family.

"Sir, what did you think of the interview?" an off-camera journalist asked Harry's father and the heir to the British throne, as he visited a Covid-19 vaccination center in London.

在当地时间3月11日，威廉在参观一所学校期间，则是回应了记者的提问，称自己采访播出后还未和弟弟哈里通话，但他将会与哈里沟通。

During a visit to a school in Stratford, east London, on Thursday, Prince William was asked by a reporter: "Is the Royal Family a racist family, sir?"

The duke replied: "We're very much not a racist family."

Asked whether he had spoken to Prince Harry since the Oprah interview, Prince William said: "No, I haven't spoken to him yet but I will do."

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday that President Biden believes it took “courage” for Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, to open up about their experiences as members of the British royal family and their decision to step down from their posts. 

“For anyone to come forward and speak about their own struggles with mental health and tell their own personal story, that takes courage,” Psaki was said a press briefing when asked whether Biden and first lady Jill Biden, who have a documented friendship with the prince, had any reaction to the bombshell CBS News interview Harry and Meghan had with Oprah Winfrey. 

“And that’s certainly something that the president believes, and he’s talked about the importance of investing in a lot of these areas that they’re committed to in the future as well,” Psaki continued.

她表示，鉴于哈里夫妇现在都是住在加州的普通居民，白宫不会做进一步评论。普萨基同时强调了美英之间“牢固和持久的特殊伙伴关系”将“持续下去”。

She also noted that after stepping down as senior members of the royal family, the prince and duchess are now private citizens, adding that the White House wouldn’t provide further commentary on behalf of the president, given “these are private citizens sharing their own story and their own struggles.”

Psaki also stressed the United States’s continued alliance with the United Kingdom.
