2021年3月9日，外交部欧洲司负责人召见英国驻华大使吴若兰，奉示就其在社交媒体发表不当署名文章提出严正交涉。

Caroline Elizabeth Wilson, the United Kingdom's ambassador to China, was summoned by a chief official with the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Department of European Affairs on Tuesday.



欧洲司负责人指出，对方作为英国驻华外交机构最高级别代表，通过官方平台发文为因虚假新闻和不实报道受制裁的个别外媒鸣冤叫屈，刻意混淆新闻诽谤和新闻监督，对外方打压中国媒体却“选择性失明”。文章通篇充斥着“教师爷”式的傲慢和意识形态的偏见，颠倒黑白、操弄双标，这一做法同外交人员身份及外交机构职能严重不符。文章一经发出就引起中国公众的普遍不满，受到强烈批评。

After some foreign media had been sanctioned for groundless reporting, Wilson issued the article to defend them, deliberately confused slander in news with supervision on news and she, on a selective basis, turned a blind eye to foreign suppression of Chinese media, the Chinese official said. 欧洲司负责人强调，中国政府和人民反对的从来不是外国媒体，而是那些打着“新闻自由”、“言论自由”旗号炮制假新闻、恶毒攻击中国、中国共产党和中国制度的错误行为。要求对方深刻反思自身职责，摆正位置，多做有利于促进双边关系发展的事。

The Chinese government and its people never oppose foreign media themselves but those erroneous moves of producing fake news and viciously attacking China, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese political system with excuses of "freedom of the press" and "freedom of speech", the official said.

据中国日报网报道，吴若兰的文章《外国媒体憎恨中国吗》声称，外国媒体“本着诚意行事”。不过，近期若干外媒涉华报道中，大家能感受到的所谓“诚意”却包括：抹黑中国“干涉”世卫专家、歪曲中国政府政策，或者在视频报道时采用特殊色调的滤镜等……
