Chinese netizens expressed great excitement on Monday after Baidu Maps, an app service, began to show search results for the "Beijing-Taipei high-speed railway" , showing the route of the railway and its status as "under construction". The news became one of the most discussed topics on Chinese social media on Monday.

 

根据百度地图app显示

京台高铁起点为北京南站

经廊坊、天津、沧州继续向南

 

在台湾省设高铁新竹站

终点为高铁台北站

 

不仅如此

搜索“北京-台北”路线

可看到路线规划中包含“京台高铁”

The search result for the Beijing-Taipei HSR indicated the route of the railway, all the way from the Beijing South Railway Station to Taipei, with a dotted line representing the section across the Taiwan Straits between Fuzhou in East China's Fujian Province and the Hsinchu HSR station before finally reaching Taipei.

 

京港（台）通道是中国“八纵八横”高速铁路网的主通道之一。早在2016年7月13日，发展改革委印发《中长期铁路网规划》，构筑了“八纵八横”高速铁路主通道。台湾省台北市出现在“京港（台）通道”这一纵向通道当中。

2020年12月26日，经过近7年建设，祖国大陆离台湾岛最近的铁路——福平铁路开通运营。高铁直达福建第一大岛平潭，距台湾新竹仅68海里的平潭，是祖国大陆距离台湾岛最近处。

 

In fact, the mainland section of the railway has been completed, although the stretch from Fujian province to Taipei across the Taiwan Straits is still to be built.

 

The railway, when built, will link compatriots on both sides of the Straits, and they are waiting for its completion.

 

2021年2月，中共中央、国务院印发了《国家综合立体交通网规划纲要》，提出2021至2035年中国交通建设愿景，台北就被规划在京津冀-粤港澳这条主轴当中。

According to Jiupai news, the owner of one Shanxi knife-cut noodle shop explained that her ancestral home is in Jimo, Shandong province. The owner also added that compatriots on the mainland can get discounts when they come to eat.

Chinese mainland social media users have long hoped that they could reach Taipei via a bullet train, the standard interprovincial travel mode for most mainland residents.

 

"Let's take a high-speed train to Taiwan. The dream will be realized in 2035. We will enjoy the scene at Penghu Bay together. And visit the Ali Mountain and Riyuetan Lake."

 

These are lines from Traveling to Taiwan in 2035, a song that has gone viral on social media.

 

The song alludes to a ride on a Beijing-Taipei high-speed train, which was mentioned in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).

 

在2021年11月10日举行的国台办新闻发布会上，有台湾地区记者曾提及这首网络歌曲《2035去台湾》。

 

发言人朱凤莲回应说，这是一首新歌，“我以前听过一首网络歌曲《坐上高铁去台北》，这两首歌应该是有异曲同工之处。我想，这实际上反映了两岸民众对实现京台高铁从福建到台北这么一个远景规划的美好愿望。希望两岸应通尽通，更方便地往来交流，多看两岸美景，多品两岸美食。我相信，这个愿望是一定会实现的。”

Commenting on the song going viral, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said in November 2021 that the song reflected the beautiful wish of residents across the Straits for such a long-term plan and that she believes "this wish will definitely come true," according to a report on thepaper.cn.
