More stringent measures have been introduced for this year's national college entrance exam, or gaokao, across China to prevent cheating using mobile phones and other communication devices.

Of the measures, "smart security gates" have been applied in many areas nationwide for the first time, according to ThePaper.cn, a Shanghai-based news outlet.

In addition to manual security checks, students in the provinces of Yunnan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Shandong need to pass smart security gates before taking the exam, the report said.

Many areas, such as South China's Guangdong and Southwest China's Yunnan, have upgraded security checks for the exam, including installing intelligent security systems with facial recognition for the first time, and asking examinees not to wear ornaments made of metal into exam sites, to prevent cheating and guarantee the fairness of the exam.

A magnetic pulse gun, which can stop drones from passing messages and information used for cheating, was used at a school in the city of Jinan in East China's Shandong Province on Wednesday, the first day of China's two-day "gaokao" college entrance exam.

Using electromagnetic force to launch metal projectiles, the magnetic pulse gun blocks communication with drones, helping to guarantee the fairness of the national college entrance exam.

绝对安全！高考试卷保密如何做到万无一失？

同样是为了保障考试的公平性，一份试卷能万无一失地递到考生面前，你知道要经历哪些环节吗？命题、印刷、运输、保管……每个环节背后不仅凝结着参与者的心血，还有不少“黑科技”的加持。

据《科技日报》报道，在高考前2个月左右，高考命题人便会开始进行遴选，通常由高校教师和中学教师组成，这个过程被称为“入闱”。相关部门会对入选的命题人进行全面审查、加强保密教育、签署保密协议。

在高考命题期间，命题人不允许使用任何通讯设备，只能通过固定电话对外联络，且通话内容会受到全程监听。即使命题人侥幸将通讯设备带入了命题场所，场所内各处安装的信号屏蔽设备，也会让手机等无法正常使用。

The process of creating and delivering gaokao exam papers is a meticulous and secretive one, involving various technological innovations and the hard work and dedication of several groups of people, according to a report by Science Daily.

The team of experts who create the exam questions consists of university and high school teachers. They go through a thorough vetting process, sign confidentiality agreements and undergo strict training on keeping secrets. During the creation of the exam papers, the team is not allowed access to any communication devices and can only use a landline for communication, which is monitored at all times. Jamming devices are used to block cellphone signals.

高考试卷初步形成后，还要经过专家的反复试验、检查，直到全体意见统一，不再有分歧，高考试卷才算最终完成。在这个过程中，命题人不仅要在命题过程中绞尽脑汁，出完的题目还要与市面上练习册中的习题进行比对，防止出现重复题目。

在命题工作结束后，命题人仍然不能离开命题场所，而是要一直等到高考结束，当所有考生走出考场后，他们才能离开。即使离开，根据规定，参加命题的工作人员在一定时间内未经考试主管部门准许也不得参与编写、出版高考相关辅导用书和资料。

The exam papers go through several rounds of evaluation until there are no more disagreements among the experts and no repetition or significant similarity is seen with existing questions in various exercise books on the market. The team is not allowed to leave the premises until the exam is over, and they cannot write or publish anything related to the exam without proper authorization from the exam authorities.

Once created, the exam papers are then sent to a select group of accredited printers who have obtained the highest level of national secrecy certification. The print units are heavily guarded with sophisticated security systems and personnel monitoring. The workers who handle the papers go through strict controls and are not allowed to leave until the exam is over.

高考试卷印刷完毕后便要被运送至各个地区考点，作为唯一的流动环节，运输过程是高考试卷安全保障工作的重点。

如果按保密级别划分，高考试卷属于最高级别的“绝密”。因此，打包好的高考试卷通常会由特勤车队进行押运，特勤车队中既包含来自考试中心的工作人员，也有当地公安及武警官兵。

The transportation of the exam papers is another crucial step in the process, and is done with the utmost secrecy and security. The papers are transported in specially commissioned vehicles with satellite navigation and remote monitoring systems, with the drivers including officials from the exam authorities and members of the police and military.

高考试卷在运抵各考点后会被存放在专门的试卷保密室，保密室的建设同样有着严格要求。根据相关规定，试卷保密室必须设在楼房的第二层以上，房间必须是钢混或者砖混结构的套间，具备防盗、防火、防潮、防鼠功能，配备铁门、铁窗、铁柜，铁柜的数量需能够满足分科存放全部试卷的要求。套间的外屋供值班人员生活起居，内屋则用于存放试卷，内外屋之间须安装防盗门。

在试卷保密室内，有一批“守卷人”和高考试卷“同吃同住”。不同“守卷人”间会进行轮班换岗，无论吃饭、洗漱还是上厕所，考卷24小时不能离开人员看守。除了“守卷人”贴身看守，保密室内外还安装有电子监控以及红外报警装置，红外报警装置与110系统联网，一旦触发警报，相关人员能够以最快速度赶到现场。

Upon arrival at the exam halls, the exam papers are stored in customized steel-reinforced rooms, equipped with state-of-the-art security measures. A team of attendants, who eat and sleep with the papers, are responsible for their safekeeping until the exams are over. The rooms are equipped with alarms and motion sensors connected to the police system, which triggers a response within moments.

要进入试卷保密室，通常至少要经过三道门。不同门之间使用不同钥匙，且分别存放在不同人手中。也就是说，要进入试卷保密室，至少要三个人同时在场。正是每个环节滴水不漏的安全保障措施，才最终保障了高考的公平进行。

At least three people have to be present at the same time to enter such rooms, as there are at least three gates, with each person holding one key.
