县太爷见到聚宝缸后，立刻往里面丢进一个金元宝。一会儿工夫，里面就有了十个金元宝。县太爷心里甭提有多高兴了，他决定把这个聚宝缸弄到自己手里。

Seeing the treasure pot, the magistrate threw a gold ingot into it. In no time, 10 gold ingots appeared in the pot. Overjoyed, the magistrate decided to keep the pot for himself.




县太爷装模作样地审案子，问老伯伯这缸是从哪里来的。老伯伯说是从自家的田地里挖出来的。一旁的王扒皮却坚持说聚宝缸是老伯伯从他家里偷走的。

He pretended to hear the case and asked the old man where he got the treasure pot. “I found it in my own field, ” the old man replied. But Wang Bapi claimed that the old man stole it from his home.
 


县太爷拿起惊堂木猛地一拍说：“大胆刁民，竟敢说聚宝缸是你们的。我祖上传下来的聚宝缸，已经丢失很久了，这回终于找到了。”然后他让当差的把王扒皮和老伯伯都轰了出去，将聚宝缸搬回了家。

Striking his desk with a gavel, the magistrate bellowed, “You are both unruly rogues! How dare you say the treasure pot is yours. It was handed down to me from my ancestors, and got lost long ago. I’ve now found it at last!” He ordered his men to drive out both Wang Bapi and the old man, and took the treasure pot home.
 


县太爷的老父亲也听说有聚宝缸这个宝物，现在看儿子把这个宝物弄来了，就急忙从柜子里拿出一个大大的金元宝，想看看它是不是真的能变出无数个金元宝来。

The magistrate’s father also heard the news about the magic treasure pot. Now that his son had brought it home, he immediately took out a big gold ingot from the cupboard and hurried toward the pot, yearning to see whether the ingot would multiply.
 


老头儿拿着金元宝兴冲冲地往聚宝缸这边跑，累得气喘吁吁的。县太爷见了，赶紧起身去帮忙。可还没等他站起来，老头儿已经冲到了聚宝缸跟前。老头儿跑得太快了，一不小心，脚底绊了一下，竟然一头栽进聚宝缸里去了，只剩下两只脚在外面直扑腾。

Seeing his father panting for breath with the big gold ingot, the magistrate wanted to offer a hand. Before he could help, though, his father was already nearing the pot, but was running too fast and tumbled into the pot head first, with his feet struggling in the air.
 


县太爷赶紧扯着老头儿的脚往外拉，拉出了一个爸爸，往缸里一看，还有一个爸爸。

The magistrate ran over to help, trying to drag his father out of the pot. He was finally got the father out.
 


他于是又赶紧往外拉，接连拉出来十个爸爸。

However, looking into the pot, he saw another man there, and he pulled him out. He kept pulling out, one father after the other. Finally, he got ten men. 
 


县太爷急得直跺脚：“你们到底哪个是我爸爸？”十个人同声说：“我才是你爸爸！”县太爷的脑袋都大了，瘫在那里没了办法。

The magistrate became hopping mad. “Which of you is my father? Tell me!” he roared. “I am!” the ten men answered in one voice. The magistrate was at his wit’s end and sank to the ground.




这十个老头儿吵成一片，还动起手来。在打斗中，聚宝缸被“砰”的一声打碎了。县太爷没得到聚宝缸，反而多出了九个爸爸需要养活。

The fathers began to quarrel and fight. “Bang!” the treasure pot suddenly fell and broke into pieces during their fight.The magistrate had lost the treasure pot, and now had nine more fathers to support.

这十个爸爸成天争吵，县太爷也分不出谁是真的，谁是假的。

Day after day, the ten father quarreled all day long, and the magistrate was never able to figure out who his real father was.
