Action hero’s soft side

In recent years, Eddie Peng has impressed audiences with his masculinity (男子气概) in action films.
近几年，彭于晏在动作片中的硬汉形象给观众留下了深刻印象。

He has played a gymnast in Jump！Ashin, a boxer in Unbeatable and a policeman in Operation Mekong. To portray these characters, Peng underwent intensive physical and professional training.

His performance in his latest film, The Rescue, is no exception. To shoot the movie featuring China Rescue and Salvage, a national force in charge of maritime (海上的) rescue, Peng – who plays a rescue team’s leader – underwent a series of tough training sessions ranging from soaking in cold water to enduring high temperatures while on fire, China Daily reported. The training and shooting lasted eight months. His wholehearted devotion to his acting career has received critical acclaim.
在新片《紧急救援》中，彭于晏的表现也不例外。据《中国日报》报道，为了拍摄这部讲述“中国救捞”这支从事海上救助打捞的国家队伍“中国救捞”的电影，饰演救援特勤队队长的彭于晏经历了从泡冰水到忍受火焰下的高温等一系列艰苦训练。训练和拍摄历时八个月。他对演艺事业的全身心投入备受好评。

But for Peng, the challenge this time wasn’t related to difficult stunts (特技). Differing from his previous films, Peng was given a new identity – a single father of a child.
但对彭于晏来说，这次的挑战并不在于高难度特技。与此前的参演的电影不同，彭于晏这次有了个新身份——一名单亲爸爸。

“I spent a long time persuading myself to play a role as a father,” he told film website 1905. In an interview with host Chen Luyu, Peng revealed that he had only met his father four times as he grew up.
“我花了很多时间说服自己扮演一名父亲，”他在接受1905电影网采访时表示。在与主持人陈鲁豫的采访中，彭于晏坦言从小到大只见过父亲四次。

To understand the role, Peng spent a lot of time establishing a genuine emotional connection with Zhang Jingyi, a young actor who plays his son, Congcong. They always ate and played together during breaks. Peng also learned how to communicate with the child of his fitness instructor, who is the same age as Zhang.
为了理解这一角色，彭于晏花了很长时间，与扮演他儿子聪聪的小演员张景祎建立培养真正的感情。他们总是在拍摄间隙一起吃饭、一起玩耍。彭于晏也学会了如何与自己健身教练的孩子沟通，这个孩子与张景祎同龄。

As a result, moviegoers are expecting to see Peng’s tenderness (柔情) come through in the film’s scenes, including one in which he bathes and comforts his son.

“I’m grateful for director Dante Lam to let me play a father, as the role made me honestly face myself and my past experience,” Peng said.
