Contributing to global vaccination

Have you gotten vaccinated? This has been a common question in China since the country rolled out mass COVID-19 vaccinations in December 2020.
你接种疫苗了吗？自2020年12月我国启动大规模疫苗接种工作以来，这便成了人们常被问到的问题。

According to China Daily, China plans to vaccinate 40 percent of its population by June, with vaccine capacity reaching 2.1 billion doses by the end of 2021.
据《中国日报》报道，今年6月,中国新冠疫苗接种率计划达到40%，预计2021年底前提供21亿剂新冠疫苗。

Meanwhile, China has reached out to other countries in need.
与此同时，中国还向需要疫苗的国家伸出援手。

The country is exporting COVID-19 vaccines to 27 countries and providing free vaccine aid to 53 countries, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Feb 23. Vaccine aid from China has arrived in countries including Pakistan, Cambodia, Laos and Mongolia.
2月23日，外交部发言人汪文斌表示，我国正在向27个国家出口新冠疫苗，向53个国家提供疫苗无偿援助。中方向巴基斯坦、柬埔寨、老挝、蒙古等国援助的疫苗已经运抵。

Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Sebastian Pinera, president of Chile, both received China’s COVID-19 vaccination, encouraging members of their respective countries to do the same.
印度尼西亚总统佐科·维多多以及智利总统塞瓦斯蒂安·皮涅拉都接种了中国新冠疫苗，并鼓励自己国家的民众积极接种疫苗。

“China’s role in the production and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines has been significant,” said Rasmus Bech Hansen, head of British research firm Airfinity.

In reaching wide vaccine coverage, small and medium-sized developing nations could end up a year behind larger developing nations and developed countries, according to the World Bank. This is because wealthier nations have reserved so many doses of Western vaccines for their own citizens. Some countries even ordered vaccines for two or three times the nation’s population, The Washington Post reported.
世界银行表示，中小型发展中国家在达到广泛疫苗接种方面最终可能会落后于大型发展中国家和发达国家1年。因为富裕国家为本国公民预留了大量的西方疫苗。据《华盛顿邮报》报道，一些国家订购的疫苗数量甚至是该国人口数量的2-3倍。

For those countries that have not yet secured a vaccine, China may be the only solution, AP noted. China is one of the few nations that can manufacture vaccines on a large scale.
美联社指出，对于那些还无法获得疫苗的国家而言，中国或许是唯一的解决办法。中国是为数不多的能够大规模生产疫苗的国家之一。

What’s more, China has joined COVAX, a mechanism organized by the World Health Organization to make sure that all members get the vaccine in the future. China has decided to offer 10 million vaccines to COVAX, Xinhua reported.
此外，中国还加入了世界卫生组织牵头的新冠肺炎疫苗实施计划，该计划确保所有成员未来都能获得疫苗。据新华社报道，我国决定向新冠肺炎疫苗实施计划提供1千万剂疫苗。

“We must ensure that no country in need of the vaccines is left behind and no individuals waiting for vaccines are neglected,” said Foreign Minister Wang Yi, noting nothing matters more than the people and nothing is more valuable than human lives.
“不让一个有需要的国家被落下，也不让任何等待疫苗的人被遗忘，”外交部部长王毅如此说道，他还指出，没有比人民至上更重要的原则，也没有比生命至上更优先的考量。
