Coming back home长夜已尽,晚舟已归导读:在结束被加拿大方面近3年的非法拘押后,孟晚舟终于回到祖国。她感慨道:如果信念有颜色,那一定是中国红!
After nearly three years of arbitrary detention in Canada, Meng Wanzhou finally returned home. CHINA DAILY After 1,028 days of detention, Meng Wanzhou, Huawei Chief Financial Officer, finally returned to China. On the evening of Sept 25, Meng, 49, arrived in Shenzhen, greeted by cheers and applause from a crowd who held a banner reading “Welcome home, Ms Meng Wanzhou”. Meng’s return was also witnessed and welcomed by over 400 million people through livestreams, reported China Daily. “As an ordinary Chinese citizen who has suffered this plight and been stranded overseas for three years, there was never a moment when I did not feel the care and warmth of the Party, the motherland and the people,” Meng said upon her arrival in Shenzhen. The news of Meng’s release has aroused a strong reaction among Chinese internet users. Her return, made possible after the Chinese government’s unremitting efforts, was hailed as a major victory achieved by the Chinese people, noted Xinhua. On Dec 1, 2018, Meng was detained by the Canadian police at the request of the US, accused of violating US sanctions against Iran. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that “facts have already fully proved that this is an incident of political persecution against a Chinese citizen, with the purpose of suppressing Chinese high-tech enterprises”. The charges against Meng are nothing but pure fabrication and what the United States and Canada have done is a typical case of arbitrary detention, Hua said. According to a statement issued by one of the lawyers who represents Meng, the US side has withdrawn its extradition request. Meng pleaded not guilty to all charges against her. Meng’s return is a major diplomatic victory for the Chinese government, and it belongs to all Chinese people, said Diao Daming, an associate professor of US studies at Renmin University of China. Her return reflects the Chinese government’s long-standing philosophy of people-centered diplomacy, Diao said, adding that as she is a business executive, it also stands for the Chinese government’s determination to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies. Meng described the motherland, the Party and the government as the shining light that has lit up “the darkest moments” of her life and led her on the long journey home. “The motherland provides us the strongest backing,” she said.
