A Chinese student has recently caught the attention of internet users in the UK with his informative posts concerning the current pandemic. Wu Peng, originally from Chengdu, Sichuan province, has been voluntarily summarizing the latest COVID-19 data. He plots it on a line graph and posts it on social networking platform Twitter to help local residents and internet users better understand the spread of the virus. The 26-year-old student has been studying international corporate law at Leeds University since April 2019. Wu started charting the growth of the UK’s COVID-19 cases on March 5. At that time, many didn’t take the outbreak seriously. To make daily updates, Wu used official information released by the British Department of Health and Social Care. Since then, he has created daily charts to keep his Twitter followers up to date. By March 30, Wu gained over 15,000 followers on the platform. His hard work and sense of responsibility encouraged his local news outlet, The Yorkshire Post, to interview him for a story. When asked about his intention, Wu explained that every day he draws a chart based on publicly available government data in a timely manner, “so that everyone can understand the growth trend more clearly”. “Insisting on doing this every day actually encourages everyone to continue to pay attention to the epidemic,” Wu told The Yorkshire Post. ![]() (Translator & Editor: Wang Xingwei AND Ji Yuan)
