“Was there a moment when you felt that you made it big?” “When people are willing to buy tickets to watch my films,” Peng Yuchang responded to iFeng entertainment. Peng, 26, is gaining momentum in his acting career. During the last National Day holiday, Peng made frequent appearances on the big screen. The audience has seen him play a young volleyball coach in Leap, a deliveryman starting up a business in a rural village in Coffee or Tea and a craftsman in My People, My Hometown. Meanwhile, Peng’s portrayal of a naughty but warm-hearted high school student in the web series Run for Young has received positive reviews. His many roles have made him a man of the hour. Peng made his showbiz debut as a supporting role in Go Princess Go in 2015 when he was a senior majoring in puppetry at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. A turning point came in An Elephant Sitting Still in 2018, in which Peng starred as a desperate teenager who is being denied a future. It was the first time Peng took a leading role, so he was fully devoted to it. Peng had to wake up at 3 am when shooting the film because it required depressing visuals without natural light to convey the misery of the characters. For his performance, Peng was nominated for Best Leading Actor at the 55th Golden Horse Awards. His efforts also earned him many opportunities. The director of Run for Young, Zhang Yibai, was so keen for Peng to play the lead role that he waited three months for the actor to be available. Zhang called Peng a gifted and sincere actor. “As an actor, I can experience different lives. It’s really wonderful,” Peng told Tencent entertainment. ![]() (Translator & Editor: Wang Xingwei AND Ma Zheng)
