Dou Jingtong has inherited her parents’ musical talent as the daughter of “diva” Wang Fei and rock pioneer Dou Wei. Dou was a vocalist in a band she formed in 2011. To date, she has released three albums and wrote theme songs for many movies such as Soulmate. “It’s refreshing to be introduced through my music, rather than something that’s irrelevant to my music,” Dou once said in an interview, China Daily noted. But after trying her hand in the film industry, Dou is now delighted to be recognized through her acting. Dou’s debut film, The Eleventh Chapter, hit cinemas on April 2. It involves a conflict between a family and a theatrical troupe. Dou plays Jin Duoduo, a daughter of single mother Jin Cailing (Zhou Xun) who marries Ma Fuli (Chen Jianbin, also the director). As of this writing, the movie has a score of 7.5 out of 10 on Douban. In the eyes of the majority, Dou looks very cool with her gender-neutral look. In the film, Dou had to wear a blue dress. For Dou, who hardly dresses like that in public, “wearing dresses could be my biggest challenge,” Dou said with laughter. Without much practical experience, Dou’s acting skills were initially in question. But Chen spoke highly of the singer-turned-actress. “Dou was born to be an actor just as she is gifted to make music,” Chen told Maoyan. In one behind-the-scenes video, Dou asked Zhou to slap her hard in order to make it more real. Thanks to her dedication, Dou won Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Eleven Chapter at the Ninth Beijing International Film Festival’s Tiantan Awards in 2019. To check out Dou’s next role, you don’t miss her upcoming movie Bipolar, to be released on June 18. ![]() (Translator & Editor: Wang Yue (Intern) AND Wang Xingwei)
