When you look around, it’s fairly easy to spot imported products. From foods, electric devices to cars, Chinese people now have more shopping choices thanks to global trade. But this wouldn’t be possible without one organization – the World Trade Organization (WTO).
环顾四周，你很容易就能找到进口产品。得益于全球贸易，从食品、电子设备到汽车，中国人现在有了更多的购物选择。但如果没有一个组织——世界贸易组织(WTO)，这是不可能实现的。

The organization is the global trade body that deals with the rules of trade between nations. By setting up the rules-based trade system, the WTO has helped solve trade disputes through dialogue and cooperation, kept international order and fueled globalization.
世界贸易组织是处理国家间贸易规则的全球贸易组织。世贸组织建立了以规则为基础的贸易体系，通过对话合作解决了贸易争端，维护了国际秩序，推动了全球化进程。

This year marks the 20th anniversary of China’s entry into the WTO. On Dec 11, 2001, China formally became the WTO’s 143rd member. As Xinhua noted, it’s a landmark event in the country’s opening-up and development and the world’s multilateral trading system.
今年是中国加入世贸组织20周年。2001年12月11日，中国正式成为世界贸易组织第143个成员。正如新华社所指出的，中国入世，是中国发展和对外开放以及世界多边贸易体制的里程碑事件。

According to Long Yongtu, China’s former chief negotiator for WTO entry, joining the WTO meant China needed to follow global trade rules while opening up its market to the world. For example, the WTO promotes cutting tariffs between countries so to encourage freer international trade. The WTO entry has boosted more Chinese companies in the global market.
中国入世首席谈判代表龙永图表示，加入世贸组织意味着中国在向世界开放市场的同时，需要遵循全球贸易规则。例如，世贸组织推动降低国家之间的关税，以鼓励更自由的国际贸易。中国入世促进了更多的中国企业进入全球市场。

Since joining the WTO, China has worked hard to be in line with the organization’s rules and open its market.
加入世贸组织的20年来，中国始终遵守世贸组织规则，对外开放市场。

According to Xinhua, China’s overall tariff level has dropped to 7.4 percent from 15.3 percent in 2001, lower than the 9.8 percent the country promised when entering the world trade body. China has also revised more than 2,300 laws and regulations covering trade and investment.
据新华社报道，目前中国关税总水平已从2001年的15.3%降至7.4%，低于9.8%的入世承诺。中国还清理修订了2300多件贸易和投资领域的法律法规。

The country has not only fulfilled its WTO commitments but also benefited the rest of the world. According to China Daily, China is a major trade partner of more than 120 countries.
中国不仅履行了入世承诺，还令世界其他国家受益。据《中国日报》报道，中国是120多个国家（和地区）的最大贸易伙伴。

The country has contributed an annual average of nearly 30 percent to the growth of the world’s economy, noted Xinhua.
新华社指出，中国对世界经济增长的贡献平均每年接近30%。

With China still endeavoring to open its door wider, Liu Yanhong, a research fellow at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, noted its role in the world economic system is no longer just as a participant. China has been a pioneer in boosting international development such as launching the Belt and Road Initiative.
中国仍在努力扩大开放。中国社会科学院大学研究员刘艳红指出，中国在世界经济体系中的角色不再仅仅是一个参与者，中国已经蜕变成推行“一带一路”等国际发展倡议的引领者。

As Premier Li Keqiang remarked at the 59th annual session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization on Nov 29, China will continue to safeguard the WTO-centered multilateral trading system. The country will work with all parties to boost world economic recovery and growth.
11月29日，国务院总理李克强出席亚洲－非洲法律协商组织第59届会议并表示，中国将维护以世界贸易组织为核心的多边贸易体制，将同各方加强发展战略对接，推动世界经济复苏增长。
