On July 8th, 2014,I was very excited. Because we went to Australia by air. During the fifteen-day studying and living in Australia, I felt the difference between Chinese and Australian cultures.
First, in Australia, our home-stay hostess Mrs. Smith said that from Monday to Friday, Tracy, Alice and I had to go to school by bus. We thought it was a little difficult for us. But the fact is, every morning we saw a lot of Australian students also taking the bus to school by themselves. In China, however, I didn’t take the bus by myself. Because in my parents’ opinions, going to school by myself is very dangerous. So we always got off at the wrong bus station in Australia. One day we lost our way, but fortunately we returned to our host family with the help of the friendly Australian people. Thank for their kindness!
Second, in Australia, vehicles and pedestrians take the left. But in China we walk on the right. Besides this, we couldn’t see many taxis on the road here, but in China, taxis can be seen on the road everywhere. On the bus, red chairs are reserved for senior people, pregnant women and the disabled. The blue chairs are for healthy people. One day, we went to school by bus, Tracy saw some red chairs were empty and she sat down directly. “Oh, no! Please don’t sit here! ” A local girl told Tracy, “Red chairs are for old people, pregnant women and the disabled. You only can sit on the blue chairs.” Then Tracy realized that she made a mistake and said “Sorry” , sitting back onto a blue chair.
Third, in Australia, the studying atmosphere is different from that in China. In Sydney University, the lessons we had were lively and interesting. One day, the teacher took us to the grass to write a poem. Then we were told to sit in a circle and read our poems to each other. We were very happy to do that. But in China we won’t always be relaxed in class.
During the fifteen-day studying tour, I learned a lot which I couldn’t learn from school. I hope to visit this beautiful country again in the future.
