面对这样的数字，美国总统特朗普却认为美国新冠病毒确诊病例数全球最高可以视为一份荣誉。他说，“我认为这是荣誉勋章（a badge of honor），真的，这是荣誉勋章。”

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he viewed the number of U.S. cases of coronavirus — the highest in the world — as a “badge of honor” because the still-increasing figure is a reflection of the country’s testing capacity.

当地时间19日，特朗普在白宫表示，美国比大多数国家都大，病例比大多数国家都要多也就不足为奇了。他说，“某种角度看这是好事，意味着我们检测工作更好。我将其视为荣誉徽章。”

“Actually the number of cases, and we’re also a much bigger country than most, so when we have a lot of cases, I don’t look at that as a bad thing, I look at that as, in a certain respect, as a good thing, because it means our testing is better,” he said.“I view it as a badge of honor. Really, it’s a badge of honor,” Trump said. “It’s a great tribute to the testing and all of the work that a lot of professionals have done.”

特朗普威胁退出世卫组织

美国确诊病例数成为全球最高，疫情形势尚未得到扭转，此时的特朗普却还在“甩锅”。

美国总统特朗普于美国时间18日晚表示，若世界卫生组织不致力于在未来30天内作出“实质性改进”，美方将终止向其缴纳会费并重新考虑是否留在世卫组织内。

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to permanently cut off the nation's funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) if the body does not commit to what he called "substantive improvements within the next 30 days."

特朗普在当天写给世卫组织总干事谭德塞的信中发出上述威胁，并在他的推特账号上公布了这封信。

In a letter to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a copy of which was published by Trump on Twitter, the president added that he could reconsider the U.S. membership in the organization.



特朗普不忘继续将应对国内疫情不力“甩锅”给世卫组织和中国。据CNN报道，特朗普在信中称：“很明显，你（谭德塞）和世卫组织在疫情中连续失策，导致无数人丧命。世卫组织的唯一出路是彻底独立于中国。”

"It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world. The only way forward for the World Health Organization is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China," Trump wrote.

BBC报道指出，特朗普寻求在今年11月连任美国总统，而攻击中国则被视为他竞选策略的一部分。

The President is seeking a second presidential term in November, and his attacks on China are seen as part of his re-election strategy.

特朗普的信中还写到：“美国政府调查发现世界卫生组织忽略了来自包括《柳叶刀》（医学期刊）等机构在2019年12月初或更早的可靠报道，说明武汉出现某种病毒传播”。

The President also accused the WHO of ignoring "credible reports of the virus spreading in Wuhan in early December 2019 or even earlier, including reports from the Lancet medical journal."

不过，特朗普的这一说法随即遭到《柳叶刀》的反驳。《柳叶刀》表示，并未在2019年12月初发布有关“病毒或者疫情在武汉或中国其他地方传播”的报道，其发表的第一篇相关报道是在2020年1月24日。

The Lancet, however, said Tuesday it "published no report in December, 2019, referring to a virus or outbreak in Wuhan or anywhere else in China. The first reports the journal published were on January 24, 2020."



另据新华社报道，当地时间19日，欧盟委员会新闻发言人在布鲁塞尔举行的记者会上回答关于特朗普上述言论的提问时说：“欧盟在这场危机中支持国际合作和多边解决方案……当下是团结一致而不是指责或破坏多边合作的时候。”

我外交部：美方打错了算盘、找错了对象

北京时间19日，外交部发言人赵立坚主持例行记者会。有记者提问：美国总统特朗普在推特上发布了其致世卫组织的一封信，信中威胁暂停向该组织提供资金，并称如果世卫组织无法表明其不受中国影响，美国有可能永久退出该组织。中方对此有何回应？

外交部发言人赵立坚表示，美国任意对国际组织断供、减资的行为是单边主义行径，违反自身国际义务。

“The US arbitrary suspension of funds and contributions to an international organization is a unilateral act that violates its international obligation.”
